Introduction

·       Sociology is derived from two words

o    Latin word “Societus” that means society

o   Greek word “Logos” that means study

·       Hence, we can say that the study of the society is called the Sociology

·       Sociology was coined by “Auguste Comte”(French Philosopher) in 1839

 

Aspects to be Study in Sociology

·       Study of society

·       Study of social life

·       Study of social relationships

·       Study of human behavior in groups

·       Study of social actions

 

Nature of Sociology

·       An independent & social science

·       Categorical in nature

·       Pure not an applied one

·       Relatively an abstract not a concrete science

·       Rational and Empirical

 

Importance of Sociology

·       Helps to study the role of institutions in the development of individuals

·       In solution of social problems

·       Drawn attention towards essential worth and dignity

·       Changed the outlook with regards to the problems of crime

·       Enrich the human culture

 

Sociology in Medical care

·       Economic condition & Patient care

o   A patient belongs to a poor family had an accident

o   His family fails to afford his treatment

o   Lack of treatment can make him handicapped and nobody prefers him to give employment

o   As a result the patient is forced to lead an idle life that causes economic problems

o   So being an administrator try to understand his situation and do whatever you can

·       Social Environment

o   A patient with physical handicap should be understood in terms of his social milieu

o   As an administrator understand the social environment to develop the patient health conditions

·       Intervention Measures

o   In the absence of social worker the admin have to deal with the family and other problems such as

§  Housing

§  Finance

§  Social disturbances

§  Psychological disturbances
