·       It is a collective effort of strategies, methods & approaches that help individuals, groups, families, organization and communities to play active role to achieve, protect and sustain their own health.

·       It is also a process of learning that empowers the peoples to

o   Modify behavior's

o   Change social conditions.

Objectives of IEC

·       To increase the reach of healthcare services.

·       To improve the quality of healthcare services.

·       To make the individuals more oriented towards problem solving.

·       To train and develop the skills in targeted audiences.

·       To combine communication strategy with mass media approach.

·       To concentrate on local field health problems.

Importance of IEC

·     It helps to create awareness & knowledge.

·     It is not expensive in nature.

·     It ensures the mechanism of feedback.

·       Time to time training

·       Supervision

·       Evaluation & monitoring.

·       Firstly get the support of community leaders.

·       Now involve the targeted audience.

·       Then establish links with NGOs & others.

·       Interact with healthcare workers & clients.

·       Perform out the multimedia campaign.

·       Implement the anticipate trouble & crisis communication plan.

·       Finally monitor & evaluate the IEC strategy.
