Introduction

 The term globalization can be describe as the circulation of products & services between the nations on the basis of efficiency criteria and the globalization trade benefit developing countries. The fast growth of globalization can be easily seen because of the advancement in terms of technology & transportation.

Effects on Healthcare

1)     Circulation of Patients

·        It is the recent phenomenon which is very well known by the term “Medical Tourism”.

·        One of the best examples is the movement of North America patients of infertility towards Western European countries because of the cost effective treatment.

·         Another example of medical tourism is movement of western countries patients towards India for the elective surgery.

2)     Circulation of Healthcare Professionals

·        Young healthcare professionals increasingly migrating towards Middle East & West from India for a better training and growth.

·        Second factor that results in the circulation of healthcare professionals is the rapid emergence of private healthcare sector because of its effective & efficient delivery of patient care.

·        The private sector focuses towards the development that serves international patients who are ready to pay out of pocket cost for healthcare services.

3)     International Accreditation System

·        International level accreditation programs like JCI (Joint Commission International) attracts number of international patients.

·        These programs served as a symbol of quality that a hospital delivers to its patients.

·        This system also increases the demand for qualifying of accreditation to get international patients.

 

Medical Tourism

It is a phenomenon of commuting (travel some distance) of one nation citizen to another nation in order to seek the cost effective, expertise and advanced medical treatment. In expanding the medical tourism globalization plays a very important role mainly in the countries like India, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia etc., because of

·   Skilled doctors
·   Advanced facilities & 
·   Sufficing hospitality
